Community Service Committee

Community Service-

About The Community Service Committee

Our club has given grants for community service to several organizations.  Through this program, we have supported the:  Issaquah Food Bank,     Sammamish YMCA,   local families in need, Eastside Baby Corner, and  local schools.

Our members donated money to provide Thanksgiving baskets and Christmas presents for persons in the Eastside Domestic Violence Program.

We present a progarm named CHOICES to junior high students to encourage them to make good decisions in all phases of their life.

We organize the annual Sammamish Challenge Day Race, a Soapbox Derby-type race for physically and mentally challenged children.  The race also benefits LEO, Life Enrichment Options.

Since our club’s inception, we have sponsored the Sammi Awards, the city’s “Oscar Night” of outstanding local service recognition.  We are also the proud sponsor of the Teen Challenge Award.

We produce Nightmare at Beaver Lake, a haunted house and haunted woods, which gives youth and families a fun experience right in their own backyard.  We work in conjunction with the Sammamish Youth Board, the Eastlake High School DECA program, and the Issaquah Senior Center on this annual event. We also conduct a Gingerbread House contest in conjunction with the event.

We sponsor a sophomore from Skyline High School to attend the Hugh O’Brien Youth (HOBY) Leadership Development Seminar, a program designed to motivate and empower individuals to make a positive difference.

Our club supports Rotary First Harvest, a Rotary District wide program, in various ways.  Members frequently work at sorting food to be delivered to food banks and we regularly subsidize food.

We participate in Summer Nights, an event that brings free entertainment to Sammamish at Pine Lake Park.

We do numerous public works for the City of Sammamish. Projects the for 2006-2007 period include design and installation of a glass sculpture and a bench in the Town Center; construction of play equipment in the new Ebright Park; participation in the planning stage of the city July 4, 2007 holiday celebration; and the Tri-awareness emergency preparedness planning program.

We participate regularly in the Habitat for Humanity programs in Redmond and Snoqualmie.
